Model Solar Village under PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana
Launch and Objective
The Model Solar Village scheme, launched on 9th August 2024, aims to promote the adoption of solar energy and make villages self-reliant in meeting their energy needs.
Financial Outlay and Funding
The scheme has a financial outlay of ₹800 crore. Each selected Model Solar Village will receive ₹1 crore in funding for its implementation.
Eligibility
- Revenue villages with a population of more than 5,000 (or more than 2,000 in special category states).
Selection Process
The selection of villages will be carried out in a competitive mode. Assessment will be based on the renewable energy (RE) capacity installed six months after the village is declared a Model Solar Village.
Implementation and Supervision
The scheme will be managed by the State/UT Renewable Energy Development Agency and supervised by the District Level Committee (DLC).
Awards and Recognition
The village with the highest renewable energy capacity in each district will be awarded ₹1 crore.
Scheme Duration and Total Outlay
- Scheme approved on 29th February 2024.
- Scheme duration: Till FY 2026-27.
- Total outlay for the scheme: ₹75,021 crore.
