Prerana Programme
Introduction
The Prerana Programme was launched in January 2024 by the Union Education Ministry. It is aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020's emphasis on value-based education. The programme is a week-long residential initiative for selected students in classes IX to XII. It combines technology with heritage for experiential learning and is conducted at a historic vernacular school in Vadnagar, Gujarat.
Each week, 20 students (10 boys, 10 girls) from across India are selected to participate in this programme.
Objectives
- Inspire youth and foster national pride.
- Promote respect for India's diversity ("Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam").
- Develop leadership qualities and instill Indian values.
Key Features
The Prerana Programme is based on a curriculum designed by IIT Gandhinagar and incorporates 9 value-based themes:
- Swabhiman and Vinay (Self-respect and Humility)
- Shaurya and Sahas (Courage and Bravery)
- Parishram and Samarpan (Hard work and Dedication)
- Karuna and Sewa (Compassion and Service)
- Vividhta and Ekta (Diversity and Unity)
- Satyanishtha and Shuchita (Integrity and Purity)
- Navachar and Jigyasa (Innovation and Inquiry)
- Shraddha aur Vishwas (Faith and Trust)
- Swatantrata and Kartavya (Freedom and Duty)
