Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana New Rules from October 2024
Overview
- Launched: 2015 under the "Beti Bachao Beti Padhao" campaign.
- Aim: Promote education of girl children.
- Eligibility: For Indian resident girls below 10 years old.
- Account Limits: One account per girl child, maximum two accounts per family.
- Maturity: 21 years (interest ceases after 21 years).
Features
- Deposits: Minimum Rs. 250, maximum Rs. 1.5 lakh per year.
- Partial Withdrawal: Up to 50% for education after 18 years or passing 10th standard.
- Tax Benefits: Section 80C deductions up to Rs. 1.5 lakh, tax-exempt interest and proceeds.
New Rules (Effective from October 2024)
- Guardian Changes: Guardianship transfer required for accounts opened by grandparents.
- Irregular Accounts: Excess accounts will be closed.
