Ministry of Education to Provide ICT Labs and Smart Classrooms in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas
Initiative
The Ministry of Education has initiated a plan to provide ICT labs and smart classrooms in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs) and hostels.
Goal
The goal is to digitally empower the girl child and enhance their knowledge and skills.
Cost Estimate
The estimated cost for the initiative is around ₹290 crore.
Beneficiaries
Approximately 7 lakh girls from disadvantaged groups (SC, ST, OBC, minorities, and below poverty line) will benefit from this initiative.
KGBVs
Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas are residential schools for girls from class VI to XII that address educational access in backward areas. There are currently 5116 active KGBVs across 30 States/UTs aimed at reducing the education gap among girls.
Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) Scheme
Establishment: The KGBV scheme was launched in 2004 under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.
Objective: To provide residential education to girls from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Features: The scheme includes ICT labs, smart classrooms, and vocational training.
Reach: The KGBVs are operational in 30 States/UTs, benefiting around 7 lakh girls.
Impact: The initiative has improved female literacy, reduced dropout rates, and promoted girls' empowerment.
