Ministry of Education to provide ICT Labs and Smart Classrooms in all functional Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas and Hostel
- Initiative: Initiative to provide ICT labs and smart classrooms in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs) and hostels.
- Goal: To digitally empower the girl child, enhance their knowledge and skills.
- Cost estimate: Around Rs 290 crore.
- Beneficiaries: Around 7 lakh girls, who are from disadvantaged groups (SC, ST, OBC, minorities, and below poverty line).
- KGBVs: Residential schools from class VI to XII, which take up the issue of access to education in backward areas.
- Implementation: 5116 KGBVs are active in 30Â
States/UTs, with the main objective of reducing |
the gap in education among girls.
Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) Scheme:
- Establishment: Launched in 2004 under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.
- Objective: To provide residential education to girls from disadvantaged backgrounds.
- Features: It includes ICT labs, smart classrooms and vocational training.
- Reach: Operating in 30 States/UTs, benefiting around 7 lakh girls.
- Impact: Improved female literacy, reduced dropout rates, promoted girls’ empowerment.
