Price Monitoring System (PMS) App

  • Overview:
      • Launched by the Price Monitoring Division (PMD), Department of Consumer Affairs in 2021.
      • Reports daily prices of selected essential commodities.
  • Source of Price Data:
      • Retail and wholesale prices from 550 centers.
      • Data received from State Civil Supplies Departments via Mobile App.
  • Commodities Monitored:
    • Initially: 22 essential commodities (Rice, 
Wheat, Atta, various Dals, Sugar, Oils, Tea, Milk, Potato, Onion, Tomato, Salt).

  • Newly added: 16 items (Bajra, Jowar, Ragi, Suji, Maida, Besan, Ghee, Butter, Brinjal, Egg, Black Pepper, Coriander, Cumin seed, Red chillies, Turmeric powder, Banana).
  • Total: 38 commodities, constituting close to 31% of CPI weights.
  • Significance:
    • Provides advance inputs for policy decisions for Government, RBI, and analysts.
    • Helps in monitoring and managing CPI inflation
