National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC)
The Government of India launched the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) on 30th June 2008, outlining eight National Missions to address the challenges of climate change:
- National Solar Mission
- National Mission for Enhanced Energy Efficiency
- National Mission on Sustainable Habitat
- National Water Mission
- National Mission for Sustaining the Himalayan Eco-system
- National Mission for a Green India
- National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture
- National Mission on Strategic Knowledge for Climate Change

Environmental Projects and Updates
National Wildlife Board Decision on Kalasa-Banduri Project
The National Wildlife Board has deferred the decision on Karnataka's Kalasa-Banduri project, which seeks to divert water from the Mahadayi River to meet Karnataka's drinking water needs.
- Mahadayi River: Originates from Bhimgad Wildlife Sanctuary in Karnataka's Belagavi district and flows through Karnataka and Goa. It is known as Mandovi in Goa.
- Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary: Located on Chorao island in the Mandovi River.
- Major Tributaries: Kalasa Nala, Bhanduri Nala, Surla Nala.
Shahpur Kandi Dam and Ravi River
The completion of the Shahpur Kandi Dam means the water of the Ravi River will no longer flow into Pakistan. The project utilizes water released by the Ranjit Sagar Dam for power generation.
- Ravi River: Originates in the Lesser Himalaya in India and is the smallest of all the trans-boundary rivers between India and Pakistan. In India, it is referred to as the River of Lahore.
- Tributaries: Bhadal, Ujh, Tarnah, Basantar (India); Aik, Bara, Beas (Pakistan).
