Government Schemes and Initiatives

Aadhaar-based Payment System (ABPS) for MGNREGS Workers

  • Mandatory for MGNREGS workers.
  • MGNREGS: Legal guarantee of 100 days of wage employment per year.
  • Launched on 23 August 2005 and implemented in February 2006.
  • Targets adult members of rural households willing for unskilled manual work.

Related Initiatives:

  • Project “UNNATI” to upgrade the skill base of MGNREGS workers.
  • National Mobile Monitoring System (NMMS) app tracks MGNREGA worker attendance.
  • SECURE app for MGNREGS work estimation and approval.
  • Geo-MGNREGA for geo-tagging completed MGNREGS works.

Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY) Interest Rate Increase

  • Interest rate raised by 20 basis points to 8.2% from the existing 8%.
  • Launched in 2015 as part of the “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” campaign.
  • Aims to promote the education of girl children.
  • Small-deposit scheme with minimum deposit of ₹250 and maximum deposit of ₹1.5 lakh.
  • Scheme matures after 21 years, with a deposit period of 15 years.

Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana

  • Started on 1st September 2022.
  • Nodal Department: Social Justice and Empowerment Department.
  • Objective: To provide financial assistance for the marriage of girls from economically weak families.
  • Eligibility:
    • Minimum age: 18 years.
    • Only two girls per family are eligible.
  • Provision for Financial Assistance:
    • Marriage after 18 years: ₹31,000.
    • Marriage after 10th pass: ₹41,000.
    • Marriage after graduation: ₹51,000.

10th Phase of Sagar Parikrama

  • Date: 5th March, 2022. First phase started in Mandvi, Gujarat.
  • Objective: Promote responsible fisheries for sustainable balance.
  • Fisheries Sector in India:

    • 2nd leading country in the world in fish production.
    • 4th largest fish exporter in the world.
    • Ranks 1st in the world in inland fish production.

    Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund:

    • Pak Bay scheme: Launched in 2017 as part of a Centrally Sponsored Scheme.

Deep-Ocean Mission

  • Led by the Ministry of Earth Sciences.
  • Aims to explore the marine diversity in India.
