Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana New Rules from October 2024

Overview

• Launched: 2015 under the "Beti Bachao Beti Padhao" campaign.
• Aim: Promote education of girl children.
• Eligibility: For Indian resident girls below 10 years old.
• Account Limits: One account per girl child, maximum two accounts per family.
• Maturity: 21 years (interest ceases after 21 years).

Features

• Deposits: Minimum Rs. 250, maximum Rs. 1.5 lakh per year.
• Partial Withdrawal: Up to 50% for education after 18 years or passing 10th standard.
• Tax Benefits: Section 80C deductions up to Rs. 1.5 lakh, tax-exempt interest and proceeds.

New Rules (Effective from October 2024)

• Guardian Changes: Guardianship transfer required for accounts opened by grandparents.
• Irregular Accounts: Excess accounts will be closed.

• Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (BBBP): Launched in 2015 by the central government.
• Balika Samriddhi Yojana: Launched in 1997 for the welfare of girls.
