Overview:

Launch Date: February 15, 2024

Objective: Provide free electricity to 1 crore households in India.

Key Features:

  • Subsidy: Up to 40% of the cost for rooftop solar panels.
  • Savings: Expected to save the government Rs. 75,000 crore annually.
  • Outlay: Rs 75,021 crore, implemented until FY 2026-27.

Eligibility:

  • Indian citizen with a suitable house roof.
  • Valid electricity connection.
  • No previous solar panel subsidy availed.

Role of DISCOMs:

  • Designated as State Implementation Agencies.
  • Facilitate net meter availability, inspection, and commissioning.
  • Receive incentives for additional rooftop solar capacity installations.

Incentives Outlay:

Rs 4,950 crore allocated for incentives to DISCOMs for additional rooftop solar capacity installations.
