Overview:
INS Triput is the first indigenously built Talwar-class frigate, constructed by Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL). It is part of the project signed between India and Russia in 2016, which involved building four Admiral Grigorovich class (Project 1135.6) frigates. This marks a significant milestone in India's naval self-reliance efforts.
Project Background:
- Deal: Signed in October 2016 between India and Russia for four frigates.
- Procurement: Two frigates will be imported (INS Tushil and INS Tamal), and two (including INS Triput) will be built indigenously by Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) with technology transfer.
- INS Triput: First ship built by GSL, with INS Tamal to be delivered by February 2025.
Features:
- Stealth Capabilities: Hull design reduces radar cross-section.
- Weapons & Sensors: Equipped with advanced weapons systems, sensors, Integrated Platform, and Bridge Management System.
- Air Defence: Vertical launch long-range Surface to Air missile systems.
- Indigenous Systems: Power generation, distribution, AC, Steering System, and Stabilisers developed by private industry.
- Armament: Equipped with Russian-made Klub-N anti-ship missiles or BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles.
