Union Law Ministry - Regional Benches of the Supreme Court

Article 130:

Allows Supreme Court to hold sessions in Delhi or other locations with Chief Justice and Presidential approval.

Supreme Court History:

  • Federal Court of India established under Government of India Act 1935.
  • Replaced by the Supreme Court of India in January 1950 after independence.
  • Initially comprised one Chief Justice and 7 puisne Judges; now has 34 judges including CJI.
