Vijaya Kishor Rahatkar Appointed as NCW Chairperson
Appointment:
BJP leader Vijaya Kishor Rahatkar assumed office as the Chairperson of the National Commission for Women (NCW) on October 22, 2024. She is the 9th Chairperson of NCW. She succeeded Rekha Sharma, whose tenure ended on August 6, 2024.
Tenure:
As per Section 3 of the National Commission for Women Act, 1990, her term is for three years or until the age of 65, whichever is earlier.

Created as a statutory body in January 1992 under the National Commission for Women Act, 1990.
Functions:
- Reviews constitutional and legislative safeguards for women.
- Recommends legislative measures.
- Facilitates redressal of grievances.
